Bravus Statement on Activist Sentencing in Bowen Magistrate Court

The following statement can be attributed to a Bravus Mining & Resources spokesperson:

“Today’s sentencing decisions are further evidence of Government not doing enough to deter activists who put mining industry workers at risk by locking onto trains, port conveyors, or railway lines.

“Tough laws are useless if the maximum penalties available are never applied.

“We shouldn’t be seeing anyone who has committed a second offence having no conviction recorded and there should be jail terms for hardcore repeat offenders.

“The fact that activist organisation the Environmental Defenders Office represented four of the activists in court today underscores that this group of professional protestors is both coordinated and resourced to be able to engage in the same illegal activity time and time again.

“The safety of law-abiding workers is being imperilled by governments and politicians who will not get serious about enforcing real consequences for activists who think their ideology is above the law.”
