Carmichael Mine celebrated at Queensland Mining Awards

Bravus Mining & Resources and Bowen Rail Company have been celebrated for their delivery of the Carmichael Mine and Rail Project at Queensland mining’s night of nights.

The greenfield mine and railway project was a finalist in both the Environment and the Collaboration categories at the biennial Queensland Mining Awards held in Mackay last night.

Bravus and MacKellar Group were recognised for the success of their operational partnership, while BMD Group was commended for its sustainable practices when building the 200km Carmichael Rail Network.

Bravus and Bowen Rail’s sister company, Adani Renewables Australia, was also a finalist in the Productivity category for its work with SMW Group to build a custom machine to clean the more than 247,000 solar panels at Adani’s Rugby Run Solar Farm in central Queensland.

Adani Australia CEO and Country Head Lucas Dow said the mining awards demonstrated the true story of the resources industry’s role as an innovator, environmental steward, and job creator.

“Carmichael is evidence of just how much economic and social good the coal industry can contribute to regional Queensland communities as we supply much-needed thermal energy alongside renewables to help lift people overseas out of poverty,” Mr Dow said.

“To be recognised in three different categories is testament to the enormous skill of every person engaged by our Australian businesses, but I’d like to give special acknowledgement of the more than 2,600 people who helped deliver the Carmichael Project. It was a job incredibly well done.

“Now that Carmichael is producing, we look forward to creating new jobs and new investment for regional communities while showing that no state or country does mining better or more responsibly than Queensland.

“We see a bright future for demand for Australia’s export coal as part of a sustainable energy mix for decades to come.”
