Mackay takes off as it joins Bravus' FIFO network

15 November 2022

Bravus Mining and Resources is excited to announce Mackay is joining its regional Queensland fly-in, fly-out network for the Carmichael mine. Available from December, two return flights a week will see Mackay-based workers get to and from the 10 million tonnes per annum operation in the North Galilee Basin in just over an hour’s flying time. This schedule will be added to as needed, and services out of Mackay will complement, not take away from, Townsville and Rockhampton which are the destinations the majority of Carmichael flights service. We also have workers who live nearby and can drive to site from the Isaac Region. Bravus Mining and Resources Chief Operating Officer Mick Crowe said the business was delighted to make it easier for Mackay’s highly skilled mining workforce to work at Carmichael. “The people of Mackay have been huge supporters of our project and the region’s world-class mining equipment, technology, and services businesses have been instrumental to the construction and now operation of the Carmichael mine,” Mr Crowe said. “So we’re really pleased to be able to offer direct flights from the city to provide new opportunities for the talented operators and tradespeople who live here, and create more value for the local coffee shops, real estate agents, car dealers and other businesses that indirectly benefit from mining.” Mr Crowe said new roles out of Mackay with Carmichael’s mining services contractor MacKellar Group were available now. "Anyone interested in joining the team at Carmichael should jump online and apply through the Carmichael Jobs portal,” he said. “Like every mining operation the positions are well-paid, and there’s no question that flying with us is a whole lot better for your fatigue management and your R&R than a four-hour drive. “But a real point of difference is we believe Australia’s export coal sector will be a vital part of the global energy mix for decades to come, and that means a secure job and a secure future for your family.” Resources Industry Network General Manager Dean Kirkwood applauded the decision as great news for both mining workers and the community at large. “These flights create a whole range of direct and flow-on benefits for our city,” he said. “They give optionality to Mackay’s experienced mining workforce, and they open doors for locals who want to gain employment in the resources sector but still call our slice of paradise home.” ENDS Download PDF...
