Carmichael coal gives Townsville train park a full head of steam

Carmichael coal is helping keep Townsville’s Blue Lady miniature steam locomotive on the right track. The Bravus Mining and Resources team responded to an SOS from the organisers of the Townsville Train Park last week who were running low on the black stuff as global demand and high prices hit supply. Bravus Chief Operating Officer Mick Crowe said the company was only too happy to oblige, donating two 200L drums of Carmichael coal to ensure the Blue Lady and her sister engine Heidi were able to keep running for months to come. “There’s something about trains of any size that captures the imagination of all ages, and we see the passion people have for the rail industry through our sister company Bowen Rail all the time, there could even be some potential future train drivers getting their first taste here,” Mr Crowe said. “So it wasn’t a question that we’d do what we could to support such a wonderful family day out in our community and help put some smiles on big and little faces. “Funnily enough, as all of our coal is normally destined for export, we think this will be the first time Carmichael coal is used for energy generation on Australian soil. That means there’s never been a better time than this Sunday to take your maiden mini loco voyage on Heidi or the Blue Lady.” Townsville Train Park (TDSME) Secretary Kody Royal said the volunteer organisation was hugely relieved it would be able to offer the magic of the “sight, sound, and smell of steam” this weekend. “We simply can’t thank Bravus enough,” Mr Royal said. “Our unique 1:8 scale steam locomotives are a major attraction for kids and parents alike and we faced having to park them up in care and maintenance until the coal from Carmichael came to the rescue. “Now we’re busy making sure they are spick and span for Sunday, and we couldn’t be happier.” The Townsville Train Park July Open Day will be held this Sunday (31 July) from 10am to 1pm at Lou Litster Park.
